Umgangssprachlich wird es oft als Zahnfleischentz\u00fcndung oder Parodontose bezeichnet, obwohl dies fachlich meist nicht korrekt ist.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Die Parodontitis wird wie Gingivitis (Zahnfleischentz\u00fcndung )\u00a0 durch bakterielle Plaque (Zahnbelag) ausgel\u00f6st, einem z\u00e4h anhaftenden Biofilm. Hauptunterscheidungsmerkmal ist der bei der Parodontitis vorhandene, r\u00f6ntgenologisch nachweisbare Knochenabbau, w\u00e4hrend die vertieften Zahnfleischtaschen bei der Gingivitis\u00a0 durch die entz\u00fcndliche Schwellung der Gingiva zustande kommen. Eine langandauernde Gingivitis (Zahnfleischentz\u00fcndung) kann auf den Kieferknochen, die Wurzelhaut\u00a0 und das Zement \u00fcbergreifen. Die Therapie\u00a0 besteht darin, den Entz\u00fcndungszustand\u00a0 des Zahnfleischs und des Zahnhalteapparats zu beseitigen und Plaque und Zahnstein sowie entz\u00fcndungsf\u00f6rdernde Faktoren zu beseitigen.
